Communication Cards

Description.

A common effect of dementia is a condition known as Dysphasia.
Other events that impair brain function, such as a stroke, can bring on this deeply debilitating condition too.

Its impact varies from person to person, affecting some or all aspects of an individual’s ability to communicate. It’s easy to imagine how frustrating and distressing this can be — even expressing simple needs or answering a basic yes or no question can become impossible. The person may know exactly what they want to say, but the ability to form or express the words has been lost.

As an aid to restore some communicative abilities, I put together a collection of pictorial cards representing common, everyday needs. The aim is to provide a simple ‘workaround’ by way of a visual means to give sufferers experiencing dysphasia a pictorial vehicle to express themselves.

Whilst they won’t suit everyone, for those who can use them, even if it’s only for a short period, these cards will bring much-needed comfort and relief.

• Produced on 1mm rigid PVC the cards are tough and can be cleaned with warm, soapy water.
• Measuring 150 x 110mm
• Supplied in a clear plastic box for ease of use and storage
• 52 cards, colour coded to make selection easier.
